Edge of Seven is proud to announce its keynote speaker for its September 29, 2017 event will be Vanessa Roth Oscar winning filmmaker and director of the just released Netflix Documentary “Daughters of Destiny” (trailer). The program begins at 7pm at 3300 Larimer St, Denver, CO 80205.
Vanessa Roth is an American filmmaker who writes, produces and directs non-fiction films and heads up social issue reform efforts through storytelling. She has won a number of film awards for her works, including a 2008 Academy Award for Best Short Documentary for Freeheld, an Alfred I duPont-Columbia award for Taken In: The Lives of America’s Foster Children, two Sundance Special Jury Prizes, Cine Golden Eagles, Casey Medals and a MacArthur Grant. Some of her award-winning films include Close to Home, Aging Out, Schools of the 21st Century, The Third Monday in October, 9/11’s Toxic Dust, No Tomorrow, The Other Side and American Teacher. and The Texas Promise. She is the Executive Producer and Director of “Daughters of Destiny The Journey of Shanti Bhavan” – a 4 part Netflix Original documentary series released July 28, 2017.

Academy Award® winning filmmaker, Vanessa Roth, has been writing, producing and directing pivotal documentary films, spots, specials and multimedia projects for more than a decade. Her films, which combine documentary storytelling with national outreach campaigns have premiered at the top tier festivals, in theatres across the country, as prime time specials on PBS, HBO, Discovery, A&E and the Sundance Channel and have been influential in national policy reform. Her work has been featured on Oprah, NPR, as the media centerpiece of the 2008 Bill and Melinda Gates International Education Summit, and at President Obama’s Inaugural Youth Events in DC in 2009. Before making films, Vanessa worked as a child advocate in public schools and family courts in New York and California. She holds a Masters degree in Social Work from Columbia University.
