Need a one-page overview of our mission, principles and programs (PDF)?
The things that an organization (or an individual) values are important. However, just holding them in high regard does not make them happen or “emerge” into the world. But beginning with knowing your values is important.
We contend that from our work (using our principles) that the following outcomes emerge:
- Sustainability – When solutions last people benefit. A failed solution is worse than not having one. Building, programmatic, or even ideological change HAS to last over time or IT’S a waste of time, energy and money and breeds cynicism.
- Empowerment – We envision a world where every person is empowered to create the life they want to live. Our work is aimed directly at leveling the playing field of opportunity for girls, women, and rural communities, who most often face barriers to educational and economic advancement.
- Community Ownership – We do not have all the answers, and we have much to learn from the communities where we work. We value collaboration and embrace projects that are initiated at a local level. By truly using all the principles below you can begin to build community ownership. Wanting ownership isn’t enough.
- Collective Impact – When you work alone you have only the potential of you, yourself. But work with others and increase the overall potential and all the potential of the group you’re with is multiplicative. You times all the others builds up more possibility to succeed and to grow your impact. A famous African quote reads, “If you want to go fast go alone, but if you want to go far, go together.” We believe that too.
