| Edge of Seven encourages volunteers to get out and see the world in order to understand the challenges we face globally. We recognize that some of the most powerful advocates of global social change were ignited by a trip to the developing world. Specifically, our projects require travelers with an open mind, a desire to contribute something meaningful, and a dedication to global social change. |
 |
Edge of Seven offers both individual and group volunteer experiences. Group projects are typically more physical, shorter in length (2-3 weeks) and construction-oriented. Individual projects are more customizable. If you have a specific skill set (such as communications, grant writing, videography, medicine, etc.) that you would like to put to use, please contact us directly at info@edgeofseven.org and we can work on finding an appropriate placement.

An Edge of Seven staff member has visited each of program partners so as to prioritize a safe and meaningful experience.

Everest Region, Nepal Village of Basa |
 |
Edge of Seven is constructing a higher secondary school in the village of Basa, Nepal. We are scheduled to break ground on the school in February and complete the project in two phases. The four-room facility will house classes 11 and 12 upon its completion this summer.

Prior to 2011, there was only ONE higher secondary school in the entire Everest Region. The region serves 34 VDCs and a total population of almost 110,000 people. The region is a 15-day walk from North to South and due to the mountainous terrain and the lack of schools, many students do not go on to pursue higher secondary education. The government of Nepal has recently begun to put a stronger emphasis on education past class 8 and, as a result, there is an extreme need for additional educational facilities.

The existing Basa campus lacks adequate space to accommodate classes 11 and 12 and interested students have to attend school in the cold, dark early hours of the morning before the primary and secondary students begin class in the same facility.

The Basa Higher Secondary School will be constructed in partnership with the local community and Nepali NGO, The Small World (TSW). Edge of Seven will provide 75% of the funding for the facility and international volunteer support, while the Basa community and TSW will provide the remaining 25% of funding and local volunteer support.

Everest Region, Nepal Village of Salleri |
 |
The community development program at Edge of Seven supports building projects in the Everest
Region of Nepal. While poverty levels in Nepal have dropped in recent years, one quarter of the
population still lives below the national poverty line of $1 per day.

As a part of the Salleri Water Project, Edge of Seven will install 3km of piping, water taps and
greatly improve the existing water supply at our recently completed women’s hostel and the nearby
community. The hostel, built in 2011, offers 40 girls the opportunity to attend higher secondary
school. The hostel is a vibrant, collaborative community where the girls are supported in their
studies and have the opportunity to participate in workshops and extra-curriculars.

In partnership with the local government and Edge of Seven’s Nepali partner, The Small World, this
project will benefit not only the girls living at the hostel, but also the surrounding community.

Volunteers will stay with host families, work on the project during the day and interact with the
girls at the hostel in the afternoons. This experience will offer volunteers the opportunity to both
experience the local culture and offer support to a much-needed project.

Click here to request more information about volunteering for this project. For payment, $1,000 will be due right away as a deposit and the balance will be due 60 days before you depart.
