Miririni, Tanzania Miririni, Tanzania is located in the Momela Lakes Region of the Leguruki Ward of Tanzania, close to the base of Mount Kilimanjaro. In this region, educational resources for girls have historically been scarce, but over the past several years Edge of Seven's local partner and the community have been working on a project to triple the size of the village school. The goal of our 2013 project is to continue to expand educational access to girls in Miririni by offering construction support for additional school structures in the community.

Logistics: Volunteers will reach Miririni by jeep, sleep in tent accommodations and eat local cuisine while at the project site.

Your Impact: You'll help to bring much-needed school access to Tanzanian girls by providing support through myriad activities, from plastering to laying bricks to painting, all while experiencing local culture and making new friends. Come with an open mind and be ready for anything!

To Sign Up: To request more information, email info@edgeofseven.org. For payment, a $1,000 deposit will be due at sign-up and the balance is due 60 days thereafter.

Mankhu Village, Nepal Edge of Seven will partner with The Mountain Fund to create a four-room Community Center specifically for women at the Mankhu Village Farm. The center will be built using earthbag construction and will complement the existing programs at Mankhu Village Farm to offer women a safe and collaborative space for education and health. The Community Center will include a computer lab, a meeting and training room, a health post and a workshop room for making handicrafts.

Logistics: Mankhu is located two to three hours outside Kathmandu by road. Volunteers will reach Mankhu by jeep, sleep in accommodations on site, and eat local Nepali cuisine.

Your Impact: Many women at Mankhu Village Farm have been victims of sex trafficking or abuse and neglect at the hands of their husbands or families and, as a result, have no where to go. Resources like the Mankhu Farm and the accompanying community center are important to helping the women in these situations heal and develop the skills they need to live independently and support their children. Your efforts will go directly toward building the community center and supporting these women and their children.

Basa, Nepal - Everest Region Basa, Nepal is a village located deep within the Everest Region where community members have struggled to provide adequate school infrastructure for all village children. As a result, girls have been sorely underserved. In 2012, Edge of Seven began a Community Development project in Basa, completing a higher secondary school using earthbag construction. Our goal in 2013 is to expand this infrastructure through the addition of female-sensitive toilets and extra classroom space.

Logistics: Volunteers will reach Basa by flying from Kathmandu to Phaplu, Nepal and then hiking for two days on moderately-difficult trails. Volunteers will stay with local families in Basa and eat local cuisine while supporting earthbag construction efforts at the project site.

Your Impact: A lack of adequate toilet facilities causes many girls to miss school during their monthly menstruations. Your work will ensure that girls can attend school consistently, while also providing more classroom space so that more children in Basa can access higher education.
